Wainscott Beach House

Our client came to us for a project on the beautiful shoreline of Wainscott, New York, to replace her existing house, which was set precariously on the dune and no longer met her needs. In response, a new house was designed to maintain the spirit of the old house and satisfy the new program. The client wanted to avoid the typical gambrel-roofed Hamptons-style house, so for inspiration we turned to the austere houses of John Calvin Stevens in Maine as well as the modest houses crafted by Alfred Scheffer in Amagansett.
