Sag Harbor Federal

We designed this house, set on a striking water-front property in Sag Harbor, New York, for a couple with two young children and their friends and family. The site is set amid an array of historic houses on one of the village’s most beautiful streets. The style of the house was inspired by the local architectural vernacular dating back 300 years to its settlement as a whaling center.

The living room porch abuts the house’s white-painted shingled north block.
The bay window breakfast niche in the kitchen and family room has a view south toward Upper Sag Harbor Cove. The floors are European oak.

A deep planting border along the southern bulkhead, featuring grasses and perennials with contrasting foliage and flowers, provides a foreground to the bay view throughout the year.
